5 Ways To Better Your Chances Of Attracting A Modeling Agency

When you are first starting out in child modeling, the clear priority is to obtain representation from a modeling agency. Without a modeling agency, you are unlikely to get much (if any) work.

Child modeling is extremely competitive. As such, it is vital to know what you can do to increase your chances of attracting an agency to your child.

1. Do As They Ask

If possible, contact an agency before sending them information on your child. It is possible (or even likely) that they will have specific requirements. If not, or if you cannot find out what the agency requires, you can fall back on a "typical" package - i.e. a simple headshot along with a resume.

However, sending an agency exactly what they ask for sends a strong message that you are organised and capable. Although the performance of your child is vital to his or her success in modeling, how organised you are is also very important.

2. Cast Your Net Wide

Do not be afraid to apply to multiple agencies - they will not take it personally! As you are seeking representation, there is nothing wrong with doing all you can to attract interest.

First of all you will need to build a list of modeling agencies. Try to go from personal recommendations, as there are plenty of unscrupulous agencies out there. Once you have a list of quality agencies, be sure to apply to every single one, and make a note of when to reapply if your child is not of interest that time around.

3. Have A Great Resume

Child modeling is often about having a cutting edge - about doing just a little bit more than the rest. Agencies will see an enormous amount of kids on a daily basis, and often there will be little to separate one from another. If your kid stands out then you will have a much better chance of representation, and having a great resume is one way to stand out.

4. Persist

Persistence is absolutely key when it comes to child modeling. Now there is every chance that your child will obtain representation early on, which would be a wonderful result. But many disillusioned parents give up on modeling for their kid after trying for some time and having no luck.

As is often the case, persistence is key. Child modeling is not an easy gig, and if you want your child to experience success, you will probably have to be extremely patient. How is this relevant to attracting a modeling agency? Simple - you may need to apply to the same agency many times before they accept your child.

If you hear nothing from an agency, don't be afraid to re-submit your child's details in a few months time. In fact, the agency may advise you as to when you should reapply if you ask.

5. Exposure

This is an area that does not necessarily offer tangible results, but can help enormously. It is also an area where we can't offer particularly specific advice. Having said that, you should be looking for any opportunity where your child might be spotted. The other benefit to this is that such things can often be included on your kid's resume. So be on the lookout for talent competitions, theatrical roles, and other such activities that may expose your child to agencies.
