Have you recently been to a circus or gymnasts show where one of the star attractions uses an apparatus that resembles a round metal frame standing on a few metal legs? In the center of that round metal frame is a taut fabric made of canvas or any other material and is attached to the frame using coiled springs. Isn't it fun to see the performers going up and down doing some breathtaking stunts?
The trampoline has been used widely for entertainment purposes, starting with backyard installations for the kids to stay engaged during the summer, to circus gymnasts for their hair raising acrobatic maneuvers, to even military purposes.
During the Second World War, the allied air force discovered that using a trampoline is perfect for training their budding pilots and navigators to the different body positions during flights. This was hitherto impossible unless you actually take them onto an aircraft. Special training was thus introduced which lead to highly trained pilots and navigators.
Both the American and space projects have gained from using the trampolines, something that is hard to imagine. In fact they were trained in the same way as their pilot brethren during the Second World War about the in flight positions that they can expect during an actual mission.
A trampoline is a great way to entertain a crowd, take some time off and just have fun. When one is on a trampoline it is difficult not to have a laugh, a spine tingling sensation of being able to fly and defy gravity for a brief moment and an urge to bounce up higher and higher. Being able to see a lot further ahead when you are at the top, than you can normally when you are on the ground, is also great fun.
However the same urge can cause fatal accidents. Records show that most accidents happen when two or more people use the trampoline at the same time. Jumps are mistimed and it becomes difficult to maintain the right trajectory of the jump, which can cause a person to have no control on his fall. Fatal accidents happen and most of the time because proper safety has not been undertaken.
When kids are on a trampoline ensure that they are under supervision and that they are wearing all the safety gears. A bit of protection and a trampoline can be a safe and entertaining way to pass time and exercise.
